Long-term conservation agriculture increases nitrogen use efficiency by crops, land equivalent ratio and soil carbon stock in a subtropical rice-based cropping system

چکیده
Conservation Agriculture (CA) is still a relatively new approach for intensively cultivated (3 crops yr -1 ) rice-based cropping systems that produce high crop yield and amounts of residues annually. With the recent development transplanting rice into tilled strips on non-puddled soil, CA could become feasible patterns. However, effect increased retention response to nitrogen (N) fertilization rate in strip with transplanted other grown annual rotation yet be determined. For nine years, we have examined effects soil disturbance levels - tillage (ST) conventional (CT), two residue –15% by height (low residue, LR) 30% (high HR) five N rates (60%, 80%, 100%, 120%, 140% recommended fertilizer doses (RFD)) rice-wheat-mungbean sequence. The 100% RFD was 75, 100 20 kg ha rice, wheat, mungbean, respectively. Rice yields were comparable between up year-6, wheat year-3 but mungbean markedly ST from year-1; however, land equivalent ratio year-1, principally because higher yield. Introduction 26% relative CT, use efficiency partial factor productivity. Nitrogen demand maximum about 10% 5% decreased wheat. Although had system due than requirement declined by50–90% when same goal considered as CT. organic carbon stock (0–15 cm) after 8 years 21.5 30.5 t plus retention. Annual gross margin 57% over CT practice HR LR In conclusion, 9 practicing under tillage, efficiency, grain yield, while minimally. • Strip profitability. The Effect of Land use and Soil Erosion on Soil Organic Carbon and Nitrogen Stock
Soil organic carbon (SOC) is a principal component in soil quality assessment. Knowledge of SOC and total nitrogen (TN) stocks are important keys to understand the role of SOC in the global carbon cycle and, as a result, in the mitigation of global greenhouse effects. SOC and TN stocks are functions of the SOC concentration and the bulk density of the soil that are prone to changes, influe...

Emphasis and interest in carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) storage (sequestration) in soils has greatly increased in the last few years, especially C with its’ potential to help alleviate or offset some of the negative effects of the increase in greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Several questions still exist with regard to what management practices optimize C storage in the soil profile. A long-ter...

Investigations were carried out to study the effect of organic farming with various sources of organic manures and their combinations on nitrogen use efficiency parameters of ADT 36 rice (Oryza sativa L.). The experiments were laid out in randomized block design (RBD) with fourteen treatments, comprising twelve treatment combinations of organic manures, one treatment with recommended dose of ch...
متن کاملImproving Nitrogen Use Efficiency in Crops for Sustainable Agriculture
In this review, we present the recent developments and future prospects of improving nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) in crops using various complementary approaches. These include conventional breeding and molecular genetics, in addition to alternative farming techniques based on no-till continuous cover cropping cultures and/or organic nitrogen (N) nutrition. Whatever the mode of N fertilization...
متن کاملLong-term rice-based cropping system effects on near-surface soil compaction
Irrigated rice (Oryza sativa L.) production is associated with frequent cycling between anaerobic and aerobic conditions, which can lead to a greater rate of soil organic matter (SOM) decomposition, thus potentially increasing soil bulk density (BD) over time. A study was conducted in the Mississippi River Delta region of eastern Arkansas, USA to evaluate the long-term effects of rice-based cro...
